How did Koreans end up in Japan? #Zainichi
We barely scratched the surface of the history that has come to light over the past decades about the Zainichi Koreans. It is good to begin somewhere - maybe enjoy the show Pachinko (originally a book by @lee_minjin) - and you'll keep uncovering many more stories.

    Like.. When you say Zainichis are treated with hostilities in Korea, can you provide any evidence of the claim? Like, was there any incident of them being treated poorly in Korea? I don't think Korean-Japanese were treated poorly back home in Korea. But we know that they have been subjected to systemic discrimination in Japan. I saw a news about a Zainichi woman recieving kver a few thousand death threats by a Japanese man. And there was a man who shot at a Korean school with a gun and was incarcerated. They burnt down a house in Korea town as well. A student took his own life due to severe bullying for years. And these all happened in the 21st century in the last 20 years.. Many Zainichis hid their identities from the public. Many athletes and celebrities also had to hide their Korean ethnicity from the public, etc. They also sent death threats to a 76 year old Korean woman. And they have been holding weekly hate speech rally against Koreans calling them roaches and calling out for genocides and rapes of all Koreans in Japan. Those things don't exist in Korea against Korean-Japanese. You become an instant celebrity if you are a Korean-Japanese in Korea, actually. So, saying that as if this hate towards Zainichis comes from both Korea and Japan is the tactic Japanese right wings use to dilute the issue of discrimination in Japan. But it seems like whoever reports on the issue also likes using the tactic to deflect the severity of hate crimes against the Zainichis in Japan.

    South Korea is not poor now, it has caught up with the rest of the West. Many South Koreans migrated to Germany, is there any particular economic reason for that move? Many S.Koreans moved to the U.S, Canada, Australia etc. Asian and European miscegenates, the best looking people. Yes you too Dan and Becky.

    I live in a major city in Australia, think of Toronto, N.Y.C or Chicago, and you get the jist of the melting pot chracteristic of those cities. I'm Italian but my ancestry is mixed, Austrian, Greek, Arabic. So on any given day people I may speak with assume I'm German, British or Italian. I felt like I have never blended into Australia because I am not one or the other. Just the same I view the world as an outsider or from an objective point of view. Objective in the sense that we are all on earth living different journeys, for good or bad that journey is amazing, dissapointing or refreshing. Our son is half Korean half Italian, he very good looking! Like you. Just remember life as being a journey, on the journey people will come and go. You will take away something from crossing paths with others, some are lessons or insights. Don't get too caught up with your mixed heritage, it is in your favor. You present yourself as very smart, use it to your advantage. I wish you an amazing journey in life :)

    I'm 65, half Korean/American, born after the Korean War in Seoul. My mother is Korean and I believe my father was an American GI. In the early 60's, I hated being mixed bc the people would stare at me, I felt like an animal in the zoo. She remarried another GI, we arrived in the U.S. in 1965. I get mixed messages from my mother who my father is. Sometimes I'm curious to know what my father looks like? Does he even know if I'm alive? So many questions and not enough answers. Children born without a parent(s) makes the child wonder about their parents, this feeling comes in and out our entire life.

    I'm Mexican American from 2 Mexican tribes. I was born with the blue birthmark on my arm. It faded, but I can still see it, very faint. The person who says that Dr's should be more aware of the birthmark. Lots of Indigenous ppl have it. My dad had an argument with Dr, he thought he had been rough and bruised me. They are right.

    I’m surprised this isn’t considered part of the coolie trade. As it’s similar to Indian and Chinese being brought with the promise of jobs. But many became indentured servitude or straight up slaves in some parts of the continent. The influences of Indian in Caribbean cuisine and culture. And Chinese in Guyana, Peru, and Suriname is underrated

    My son is bi-cultural, Korean-American (Irish/English), but absolutely does not care. At all. Not even a little bit. 🤣🤣🤣 I think my son's response is the absolutely healthiest response I've ever heard from a "halfie." Dude is just a dude. Love it! (No shade intended for those who have struggled with identity more.) He is in his Junior year, raised all but 1.5 years in the US when he was a toddler. Acts completely American, but fits in perfectly with his friends, at school, etc. He had a little teasing in early elementary school, but that's it. One of his friends is also a halfie, so maybe that helped him feel less different.

    1988 olympics in Seoul 1989(!) A year later, the iron curtain fell. Get your facts right

    • @TheHalfieProject
      @TheHalfieProject 27 дней назад

      @@christinaspintge6963 The Seoul Olympics took place from September 17th to October 2nd, 1988. And yes, we were careful to say that the Iron Curtain was starting to fall, which led to the significant moment of the dismantling of the Berlin Wall in 1989. By 1988, significant political and social changes were already underway in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. Mikhail Gorbachev’s policies of glasnost (openness) and perestroika (restructuring) were beginning to take effect, leading to greater openness and reform. The push for political freedom and economic changes gained momentum throughout 1988, setting the stage for the critical events of 1989. Throughout 1988, various events such as the re-emergence of the Solidarity movement in Poland, the Candle demonstration in Czechoslovakia, and Hungary’s opening of its border with Austria were indicative of the momentum for change. These events created a ripple effect that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. We decided to show images of the Berlin Wall falling because it is globally recognizable and a major symbol of the Iron Curtain falling. It was the culmination of many events in different countries that led up to its fall, prior to November 1989.

    Jesus hates Catholicism. It's not about one group vs the other but answering to Jesus Himself. The 7 sacraments are BLASPHEMY. The eucharist mocks the SINGLE time that Jesus was crucified. You DON'T need Him offering His flesh over and over and over again. He HATES seeing so many put Mary herself in the way of reaching Him directly. Jesus did ALL THAT WORK being whipped, beaten, carrying the heavy cross, being crucified TEARING the veil and conquering death and resurrecting then the evil papacy put a veil back up with Mary's picture on it. It's a DIRECT offense to everything Jesus did for us in the first place! Catholicism DOES NOT get you into Heaven. Repent and only worship Him! So many Ex-Catholics will tell you how thankful Jesus removed the pagan blindness from their eyes. REPENT. 🙌✝⚠🚨

    My mother, born in Hong Kong in the 50s, immigrated to france in 1989. She met my biological father (french), that abused her, I'm born from this environement. My mither raised me alone, in France, in a asian community, in east of Paris, speaking chinese at home. I'm mixed Hong Kong-French, I'm white passing. The difficulties you went through resonates with me. I went on therapy, EMDR, and went to Hong Kong to trace back what happened in my mom's past. I did in fact, carried lots of trauma of my mother's. Knowing what happened made me pass through lots of emotions, that I needed to process. Slowly, in a few months, I began to feel for the first time : at peace. Intergenerational trauma, of the mixed asian family dynamic types, can be healed.
